(More customer reviews)First, I have to say I used to have a cheaper opaque projector when I was majoring in art in college. I gave it away and felt that an opaque projector was of no use to me.
Many years and blood and sweat and tears later, I now have an art studio and sell my paintings professionally... at a painting workshop a few months ago, the instructor used one of these and I fell in love. Now it's not only my gadget I couldn't live without, I gave one to my artsy mom as well for Christmas and she cried she was so happy! She has renewed her interest in painting that had lain dormant for years because all the hard work of transferring the image and enlarging it on a canvas or paper via graphs and measuring is now extinct...she simply uses the opaque projector and transfers it in seconds! (even onto small canvases; it does that too.)
I did notice the review about the blurry image if enlarging. Much like binoculars, you simply turn the round ring that circles the lens to focus and your image comes quickly into view, crisp and sharp. You do have to focus it though in order to get the image and image size you need, like any opaque projector. I do all my paintings with the opaque projector and have had no issue with clarity personally on this model.
How to use it? If you have a photograph or drawing, or magazine picture or clip art, or something you have designed on the computer, simply slip it into the top of the projector. This model allows for larger pics to be placed inside. (If your picture is too big, just place it in the projector in sections and transfer each section seperately) Then dim the lights. I use mine in a pretty well lit art studio but it projects the image onto your canvas or paper or wall with light so, as with any opaque projector, less light does help. You will see a clear picture on your canvas or medium and you can simply trace the lines and get it perfectly onto your canvas the first time with no adjustments! Turn the lights back on and you have a perfectly flawlessly drawn image to paint or color in...it's like the professional artist's coloring book maker! ha
I now spend all my creative time painting rather than getting the sketch just right! I take photos and transmit them to canvasses or do computer renderings and transmit them and I have even taken pop art clip art images and tweaked them to make paintings.
I also use the opaque projector to do kid's murals and high-end wall murals for clients. For example, I put pictures of storybook characters in the projector and projected them onto the wall and painted them in. So eaaaaasy!
I teach classes in the evening and when I want to transmit a drawing in seconds onto my flipcharts for illustrations, I use my projector.
After using the projector for a month I got the stand. This has made a world of difference. You can move it up and down and angle it so smoothly as you go about doing your drawing. This makes it all so much easier. Especially if you have to do the painting in sections or need it at a certain height.
