(More customer reviews)This is my fourth bread machine in the past 15-20 years. I started out using the original Zojirushi, which was a great machine (but eventually died after many years of loyal service). More recently, I had been using a full-size Zojirushi BBCCX20 and a Breadman Ultimate. I still use both the Breadman and the Zojirushi BBCCX20 for specific purposes (I bake a lot of bread), but the Zo Mini is the only machine that stays permanently on my counter now. It has become, by far and away, my favorite bread machine.
For starters, I should explain why I still use the Breadman and the full-size Zo:
o The Breadman (which seems to be sold under a variety of private labels these days) is the most flexible machine on the market in terms of the range of cycles and the ability to adjust the cycle timing. I especially like the Pause button for breads that refuse to proof as quickly as expected. The motor is weak, though, and the machine is very noisy.
o The full-size Zo has a great motor. It's the only option for making 2-pound loaves of whole-wheat bread. It also has the ability to program custom cycles (but no Pause button once a cycle is under way). On the downside, it has a very annoying beep to signal when it's time to add fruit/nuts -- the beep goes for a very long time and can't be silenced, which is a problem if you use the machine on a delay setting to bake bread overnight. Like the Breadman, it also takes up quite a bit of counter space.
Now, on to the Zojirushi Mini:
+ The Zo mini produces the perfect size loaf for every day. The larger machines are great for producing 1.5 to 2 pound loaves, which are the right size for a big gathering. But a loaf of that size is too big for everyday meals. The Zo Mini, on the other hand, produces a loaf that's perfect for everyday use -- we generally eat half the loaf as soon as it comes out of the machine, then finish off the loaf the next day before it goes stale.
+ The Zo mini takes up less than half the counter space of the full-size loaf machines. It's so small that I can leave it out all the time, which makes it really easy to bake a loaf of bread on a whim.
+ The Zo mini seems to live up to the Zojirushi reputation in terms of motor power. I've had no trouble with very stiff whole-wheat doughs.
+ The Zo mini is very quiet. The difference between the Zo and my Breadman in terms of noise is amazing. This is especially important if you like to use the machine on a delay setting overnight so that you can wake up to fresh bread.
On the downside:
- The Zo mini does not have the same options as the full-size Zo to create customized baking cycles, and it still doesn't have a Pause button (why hasn't Zojirushi figured this out by now?).
- The beeper that indicates when to add fruit/nuts still can't be turned off. On the positive side, though, the beeper only beeps about five times on the mini, which is a huge improvement over the 15-beep cycle on the full-size Zo (which always kept me from using the full-size Zo overnight).
In a nutshell: The Zojirushi Mini is the closest thing I've found to the perfect bread machine. It's compact and simple, with a powerful motor, and it produces the ideal size loaf (i.e., one that you can finish before it goes stale). Although I continue to use my bigger machines for holidays, the Zo Mini is now the only bread machine we use on a regular basis. It's a great addition to the kitchen if you enjoy fresh bread.

I never thought that I would be so excited about an item but I truly was. I underestimated our technology because I didn't realize that you could now stick dry ingredients into a machine and a few hours later beautiful crusty soft bread pops out! WOW! Gone are the laborious & boring tasks of kneading, kneading, leaving to rise and eventually kneading again which would take away half of your afternoon. It just isn't great time management in our busy lives this day in age, to spend it preparing and baking a loaf of bread.
Hubby attempted his first loaf (ever!) the moment the box arrived. At first glance, the machine is on the large-ish side as I suspected it would be. You could leave it on a counter but if you are limited on space as we are it just wouldn't be feasible; unless you were truly making a loaf of bread a day.
There is an instructional guide with all the tidbits of info you may need on the machine's settings and problems that may occur with solutions. There are even a variety of recipes to get you started in the bread baking world. The machine's strong points are the fact that it will do all the work and provide you with a loaf of bread after a minimum couple of hours. I am very excited to try the pasta and pizza dough settings. As far as baking, I will leave that to my trusty oven. It is still a wonderfully feature packed machine that also has a fruit/nut dispenser.
We provided pictures of our first attempt at a loaf of Pepperoni and Provolone Cheese bread. The options selected were Bake Rapid, XL loaf & Dark Crust. The selected options took a total of 1 hour & 55 minutes. Preparation was 5 minutes including pressing the selected options mentioned above and the start button. Once the bread is done, the machine will beep 8 times and you are informed by the guide that it must be removed immediately and placed on a wire rack. We had to wait a bit after removing for our bread to cool down so that removal of the kneading tool would be easy. According to the directions, if your kneading tool is stuck in the bottom of your bread then you may need 20-30 more mLs' of water. We were a bit impatient so that is why we chose the Rapid Bake option lowering the total time to 1.55 opposed to 4 hrs. Next time we will attempt the longer cooking time and see what the difference in taste and quality shall be. The machine does vibrate a bit while it is kneading, but it isn't noisy in the least. At one point I was concerned because I got a hint of "burning motors" smell, but I suspect that it may be because it was the first time it was used.
Hubby's first loaf was DIVINE! We love bread in our household to the point of being able to polish off a whole loaf in one sitting. The bread was crusty on the outside and softy/fluffy in the center with little tidbits of spicy pepperoni and herbs sprinkled throughout. While it was baking it smelled very much like a pepperoni roll. Our dogs and kitten stood below the machine sniffing at the air... that is how much the aroma permeated our household. When it was finally removed and cooled we made turkey sandwiches and there are only 3 slices left today. It was that good!! The XL was a great size for our family of 5, but it would be overwhelming for a single person or small family. I am not sure how the bread stores because we don't have any left.

No timer because with these options(other than pizza) you must shape the finished dough and allow it to rise and then bake in oven.

Rest dough for 1 hr in the refrigerator before cutting.
No timer option
Option for Baking Cakes:
Select: Bake Only
Select: Baking Time
No timer option
Total baking time cannot exceed 90 minutes.
Highly recommend for bread lovers that would like to have control of what goes in their bread. Also recommended for families/individuals that like fresh bread daily. It is wonderful to be able to make a loaf and not have to go through all of the babysitting and effort that accompanies making fresh bread. True time saver with wonderful results.
INCLUDED IS A 1 year warranty... wish it was longer!

(More customer reviews)The Zojirushi BB-HAC10 breadmaker is terrific for couples, singles, or apartment dwellers wanting a small loaf of bread (1 LB). While at first, its price may be offsetting, it is a fantastic device and made of high quality materials. Most breadmakers are too large and end up being stored in the closet, but this machine is small, sleek, and bakes perfect loaves of bread. It is the same width as my toaster and is small enough to keep out on an apartment kitchen counter. The loaves on regular cycles take between 3:40-3:00 to bake, but it has a timer and a "keep warm" feature. It is quiet and an 8-year old could easily operate its simple push button controls.
It has an even-heating element, and a good quality, heavy, non-stick baking pan, which is a snap to clean up. It has a pasta/cookie dough feature and a jam (!) feature. The tiny paddle is actually surprisingly efficient at making dough for cookies and such.
One caveat: It bakes a small, vertical loaf of bread and a 1 LB loaf is smaller than you think it is. So the "rounded" part on top takes up about 1/4 of the entire loaf. Also, your bottom slice will have a gaping hole where the paddle bakes into it. While this is not much of a problem for a large 2 LB loaf, for this small loaf, it is a bit of a waste.
We have had a Zojirushi since the early 90's and although we found it consistently made excellent bread, it wasn't getting used very often because it was large and the 2LB loaves simply weren't getting eaten. After downsizing, we found that this breadmaker is fabulous because it makes small enough loaves that you can experiment with tons of different recipes and throw away a botched recipe without feeling bad about waste.

(More customer reviews)I am an avid bread maker. this is my third machine. I hated to spend the money -- seems absurd to pay that much -- but it is amazing! No comparison with typical machines. (my last was a cuisinart. was ok, but not like this -- and didn't last long. six months of frequent use and it failed to properly mix. ) this one is easy to use. no need to get the temperature of the ingredients just right. the machines "preheats" to do that for you and get it just perfect. the bread quality is superior. I am absolutely in awe. I bought a bread machine recipe book to go with it and am finding it fun to experiment. I need not worry if it will be a flop! It bakes a beautiful loaf everytime. Treat yourself and your family!!
