(More customer reviews)I recently purchased this for cleaning the tile and grout lines in my house. Roughly 80 percent of my house is tile, and it was pretty dirty. This machine did an excellent job cleaning the tile surface but it could not deep clean the grout as I was hoping. If you have extrememly dirty grout you will still need to scrub it by hand. Once you performed the initial cleaning though, this machine will maintain the tile and grout great. I am so glad I bought this. I had a party last night, and this machine made cleaning up dirt and spilled alcohol easy and fast.

(More customer reviews)Somewhere between a heavy duty floor vac with attachments and a wet towel, lies the Scorpion. This niche ideally would be filled by the Dustbuster, but as others have lamented, Dustbuster like devices don't last long enough to really complete most jobs. Cleaning depends entirely on the size of the mess, so its difficult to predict how long a vacuum need be run. With a corded vacuum of small size, one can clean as long as needed, until the dust bin fills up. The trick is to get the right size and weight to make a corded vac as convenient as possible.
Dirt Devil has achieved that mix in the Scorpion. Its strong vac makes short work of cleaning, and carried by shoulder strap while using hose allows cleaning of most areas easily, and rarely is the crevice tool really needed. Its very good for cleaning tight places, especially cars. Cleaning a non-disposable dust bin is a mess with any vac, but can be done with less mess by pre-covering the filter with a sheet of kleenex before each run, then mopping up when needed with a disposable lint roller.
Constructed of good quality plastic, this vac is well worth its $20.

(More customer reviews)This is one heavy vacuum and it has a louder than usual noise, a pitch that hurt my ears. However, the amount of dust and lint in the canister was amazing and the "power paw" is great for stairs and furniture and the duster is really a nice feature. The way it cleans itself is so cool. Overall, I'd say this is a great vacuum, but he noise and weight take away a few stars.

(More customer reviews)I bought the Eureka because I wanted an 'upstairs' vac. You know, the machine that we just keep for the bedrooms. Well, I now use this machine all over the house. Here's what I really like about this vacuum:
fairly quiet operation
variable speed motor
excellent filtration
power nozzle seems self propelled
very large bare floor brush attachment
Now, things I don't like about it:
small bag capacity
flimsy, tiny little dusting brush - worthless (and it keeps falling off the holder)
made in China
The bags, while very small, are easy to change. And they are fairly inexpensive, so I can't kick about that too much. The power nozzle goes under very low things (like beds and coffee tables) and cleans very well. The carpet almost looks new again. The suction is very good, not outstanding, but certainly enough to clean well.
I wish the speed control for the motor was in the hose handle, and not on the cleaner, as I don't remember to bend down to turn the knob when cleaning throw rugs (which is what a speed control is made for), and wind up dragging the throw rugs across the kitchen floor.
All in all, it's a decent cleaner at a decent price, and I feel it will do the job I require of it for many years. For the average person's needs, and in a home less than 2000 square feet, with wall to wall rugs and bare floor surfaces, it's a fine vacuum. I did go to a vacuum cleaner service shop and bought a REAL dusting brush (round, with horse hair bristles) that works like a dream compared to the one included. Cost: $4.

(More customer reviews)I have mostly hardwood floors and a little carpet and not a lot of space to store a bulky vacuum cleaner. It was difficult to find a model that would transition easily between wood and carpet. This model is excellent on the hardwood and tile floors, but it is not the greatest on the carpet. The suction is great and easily adjusted from the handle. It is easy to dump the dirt from the bagless collection area. It is a little small, so if fills up fast. The only other issue I have with this is that the cord is very short - so you have to keep replugging it in all over the house. Otherwise, a very lightweight, nicely designed vacuum. I am very pleased with it.

(More customer reviews)I had the older version of this machine. I bought it about 6 years ago and after attempting to clean the rugs last month I realized it was no longer picking up the water. Opened it up and saw that the internal suction hose had split in half. That was it .. time to find another cleaner. I have had good luck with Hoovers but did a TON of research before settling on this machine. I have a dog and a toddler and both do a number on my rugs. Juice, food, crayons, spit up, urine and everything else under the sun has ended up on my carpet in the past 2 years. I did not take care of my previous Hoover so it wasn't the best in its later life. I just brought the new one home and oh my god, the water was black. I did not think anything could bring my carpets back but this did. They are so soft and clean. I love this machine because it has a rinse button if you want to make sure you have gotten all the soap out. I use really warm water and the machine directs hot air onto the carpet as you make your passes. The carpet dried super fast and just looks fantastic. I had to fill and empty the containers 4 times for my combination living / dining room but hey, I'm not complaining now that I see the results. I also like this machine because you do not mix the detergent in with the water. This is great because if you have detergent left over you just pour it back into the bottle. Based on my previous experience, here is what I learned and can pass on to future Hoover SteamVac owners:
1. Clean your machine after each use. That means taking apart the brushes and washing out the front nozzle. This is an investment and if you want it to continue working like it did the first day, you need to take care of it.
2. Do not leave left over or dirty water in the tank when you put it away. This will wear away at the joints and increases the chances the leaks.
3. Do not leave left over detergent in the tank .. see #2.
4. Read the directions when you put it together and make sure you read how to use this rather than just take it out and turn it on. I never read the first manual and didn't realize I should have been cleaning and using the spray button a totally different way.
This is a great machine and I hope it will last just as if not longer now that I know how to take care of and use it properly.
